- The Interstellar medium (ISM): from the large scale structures to the small scale structure of star-forming regions
- présentation
The "interstellar medium" consists of the gas, dust, cosmic rays, magnetic field, and electromagnetic radiation present in the space between the stars. This course consists of an introduction to processes leading to star-formation in our own Milky Way galaxy. The important physical processes shaping the interstellar medium will be discussed, including those leading to formation of stars out of molecular clouds, disks and planet formation. Emphasis will be placed on developing physical and intuitive understanding of the important physical processes.
- Chapter 1: Introduction to the interstellar medium
- Chapter 2: The interstellar medium in its different states of hydrogen
- Chapter 3: Stages of star formation
- Chapter 4: Filamentary structures of the interstellar medium
- Chapter 5: Protoplanetary disks and their chemical heritage
- Chapter 6: Cloud collapse and fragmentation
- Chapter 7: Magnetic field
